Development Director
POSITION OVERVIEW
Every student is capable of achieving academic success, yet the public education system was not designed to meet students of color where they dream — instead they marginalize them and underestimate their abilities. TAF partners with school districts, educators, and organizations to challenge the current public education system. We address the entire public education system, from top-to-bottom, providing STEM skills and equitable, anti-racist education environments where all students can succeed and by working with emerging and established education leaders of color to improve representation at every level. We:
Co-manage two public STEM schools where we provide industry-relevant and equitable curriculum and experiences
Partner with existing public schools and coach students and staff using our successful STEMbyTAF learning model
Empower early-career educators and established school leaders of color through educational equity and liberation pedagogy
Our ability to continue being successful in our work depends on investments individuals, foundations and corporations and the talents of volunteers. Our fund development team works hard to increase our network of supporters as we expand our reach within the public school system. We take pride in ensuring these investments are put to work with efficacy and care. As the leader, the Development Director plays a critical role in the success of our fundraising efforts and the growth of the department.
We’re looking for a dynamic team leader with great fundraising fundamentals and an entrepreneurial spirit who gets excited about building a high functioning team that annually surpasses all the goals they set.
The Development Director will have the opportunity to expand TAF's annual fundraising capacity to support scaling of our programs and build unrestricted reserves to ensure TAF's stability and flexibility into the future.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The job duties of the Development Director include but are not exclusive to building and managing a results-oriented, effective funds development team and infrastructure to support all fundraising and stewardship activities of TAF, providing leadership in managing a team and expanding it over the next few years to accommodate organizational growth, and working hand and hand with the Director of Communications to ensure the creation and distribution of all communications that support the fundraising efforts.
FUNDRAISING
Create and lead the implementation of annual fundraising plans and workplans with benchmarks for measuring performance
Lead and support Board of Directors, volunteers, and staff involved in the solicitation process with reliable donor research, solicitation materials, coaching, and follow-up
Manage a portfolio of high-level donors through a moves management process that includes cultivation, solicitation and stewardship including donor acknowledgement and recognition, annual reports, and informing donors of the impact of their gifts
Understand and interpret for private contributors, a range of giving opportunities consistent with TAF’s priorities and strategic directions, especially those opportunities that result in major and endowed gifts
Oversee grant seeking including research, proposal writing, and reporting requirements
Oversee the implementation, growth and retention of the Alliance Program
Direct all annual fundraising drives
Lead the development and implementation of fundraising and special events
Direct capital campaigns and other major fundraising drives
Oversee the use of fundraising database and tracking systems
Build the planned giving program with a focus on deferred gifts such as bequest expectancies
TEAM DEVELOPMENT/MANAGEMENT
Manage and support the Development staff to ensure all team members meet their annual goals
Devise a strategy for departmental growth
Perform annual performance review
Set annual Development Team budget
COLLABORATION
Partner with the Director of Communications to create fundraising materials including, but not limited to newsletters, social media, stories, videos and website updates
Work with the Executive Director to exchange information about high end donors and prospects in each other’s portfolio
Provide input for the TAF organizational strategic plan

Ability to represent the needs of students of color
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience raising annual budgets over $3M
Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated successful, progressively increasing achievement in fundraising, as well as team leadership, and direct experience leading a significant major gifts campaign execution
Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated managerial experience leading a team
Intellectual depth, maturity, wisdom, and mentoring skills to lead and manage Familiarity working in diverse and multi-cultural and bilingual environments
Excellent written and oral communication skills with demonstrated ability to speak and write clearly and persuasively; ability to compile data accurately
Pass all required criminal and child abuse background checks.
Possess a valid Washington State Drivers’ license and reliable transportation
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Postsecondary degree or professional certification in fundraising is required
Direct experience launching major fundraising campaigns is a plus
Education coursework in fund development are strong pluses
Knowledge of the local philanthropic community is desirable
Knowledge of the K-12 public school system
Fluency in languages other than English is a plus

Salary Range: $100,000-120,000
