The Nuclear Command Resilient Systems Group (QKS) is seeking a senior software engineer with leadership experience who wants to work on some of the most challenging technical problems in support of our nation’s military communications systems. You will be an ideal candidate if you have experience designing software architecture in addition to experience throughout the full software development lifecycle.

As a Senior Software Engineer on our team, you will...

  • Lead a team of software engineers through the full software development lifecycle to build a new generation of simulation-based tools to help tackle challenging digital modeling and mission engineering problems for the NC3 community.
  • Lead a dedicated team of outstanding engineers that craft, develop, and configure digital engineering environments used to test and evaluate our military's communications systems.
  • Bring professional software engineering and application architecture concepts and best practices to the workplace.
  • Apply technical/professional expertise to facilitate the on-schedule delivery of high-quality work products.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Possess at least a Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or another related field.
  • Have at least ten years of relevant professional experience.
  • Have at least five years of relevant experience leading software engineering teams through full-cycle development.
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills, outstanding oral and written communication skills, and good organizational skills.
  • Have the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Top Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
  • Can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. To ensure the safety and well-being of the community, APL has established a policy requiring that all staff be vaccinated against COVID-19. All staff members must provide proof of full vaccination or have an approved medical or religious accommodation by their start date. 

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have a Master’s degree or Ph.D. in computer science, computer engineering, or another related field.
  • Have at least ten years of relevant professional experience.
  • Have at least five years of experience leading software engineering teams through full-cycle development including software productization, deployment, maintenance and support.
  • Have professional experience in data science and statistical analysis.
  • Have leadership experience developing in an Agile environment to include automated testing, continuous integration, and deployment.
  • Possess an active Top Secret clearance.
