We accomplish many extraordinary and impactful tasks, including fabricating hardware that travels to distant planets from Pluto to our own star. We also support many important DOD and research programs. Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU APL) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated material handler to join our team, in support R&D programs ranging from of National Security Space to Undersea hardware programs.

 

As a Material Handler ..

  • Your primary responsibility will be to manage all incoming materials and hardware throughout the Advanced Mechanical Fabrication Facility
  • Unloading delivery trucks using forklifts, unpack and organize material and perform verification on the received material documentation.
  • Responsible for kitting material and associated hardware to the work order traveler including identifying all kitted items and delivering productions kits to designated work cell.
  • Print and attach labels via label maker to incoming material and hardware for proper identification.
  • Record material information including, material certifications, date received, quantity into Work Order Traveler Visual Enterprise work tracking system.
  • Responsible for confirming material received is correct and meets all specifications requested, document and report inconsistencies.
  • Track Material, hardware, cutting tools etc. to ensure timely receipt and deliver to correct shop with-in the section.
  • Install hardware when required, and occasionally run a machine to do simple operations.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

 

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1-year experience in a warehouse or manufacturing environment utilizing forklifts and other loading and unloading support equipment.
  • Excellent organization skills and must be able to multi-task.
  • Positive interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team-oriented atmosphere.
  • Ability to learn band saws, manual mills, and other power equipment safely.
  • must have good communications skills and be able to process work with verbal instructions.
  • Must be able lift 70 pounds.
  • Ability to use computers and have experience with Microsoft office suite.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with good driving record.
  • Able to identify different types of material. Understand how interpret mechanical manufacturing drawings. Prior experience with inventory control computer systems.
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
  • Can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
