(2) REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

a) This position reports directly to: Dr. Camillo Ricordi (Department Head or Director)

              b) This position directly supervises:

                             Admin./Prof. employees 1; Faculty 0; Research & Clinical

                             Fellows/Research Associates 1; Non-exempt Employees 0;

                             Student Employees 1, including PhD students and Master Students

              c) This position works closely with: other research professors, scientists, research associates/technicians, graduate and postdoctoral fellows at the DRI.

(4) LOCATION:  Diabetes Research Institute, 1450 NW 10 Ave., Room 2011, Miami,

         FL, 33136.

MISSION STATEMENT:  The Diabetes Research Institute (DRI) is an international

center whose mission is to bring together leading scientists worldwide to develop and rapidly apply promising research to treat and cure diabetes. 

POSITION SUMMARY:

supports the University’s research goals and objectives by engaging in complex experiments and investigations in a range of areas, depending on specialty and interests. Moreover, an employee in this position contributes to the scientific community and promotes the University’s reputation as a leader in the field

RESEARCH RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assisting with clinical research in the area of islet transplant studies to include, but may not be limited to, the following

  •  Supervise the process of patient screening and patient consenting for clinical research participation.
  • Supervise the review of completed applications sent by candidates for clinical research trials conducted and assisting with determining eligibility for trials; supervise enrollment.
  •  Partecipate in the conduction of clinical trialsAnalyzing data generated including metabolic testing and other protocol related outcomes.
  • Working with Director of CITP, and other PIs, and clinical staff to coordinate islet transplants and other DRI clinical trials;
  • writing grants and papers on clinical trials
  • Supervise and mentor postdoctoral fellows and visiting physicians
  • Other duties as assigned

 (8) POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Ph.D., M.D. or other doctoral level degree required

Certification and Licensing:

Not Applicable

Experience:  

Minimum 10 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.
  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.

Department Specific Functions

Assisting with clinical research in the area of islet transplant studies to include, but may not be limited to, the following

  • Assisting with process of patient screening and patient consenting for clinical research participation.
  • Reviewing completed applications sent by candidates for clinical research trials conducted and assisting with determining eligibility for trials;
  • Contacting candidates to review and discuss inclusion/exclusion criteria, and complete requirements for participation;
  • Analyzing data generated including metabolic testing and other protocol related outcomes;
  • Working with Director of CITP, and other PIs, and clinical staff to coordinate islet transplants and other DRI clinical trials;
  • Sampling and processing research blood, and obtaining other completed perquisites for participation in clinical trials
  • Other duties as assigned
