The Lefkowitz bioinformatics laboratory (http://scholars.uab.edu/display/elliotl) is seeking highly motivated candidates for an available postdoctoral training position. This position will support the taxonomic classification of viruses by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) and the development of tools and data resources to communicate the taxonomy and associated information through the ICTV web site (https://ictv.global/). The position is funded through an NIH/NIAID U24 grant, �Virus Taxonomy: A Community Knowledgebase Supporting Virus Research�.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree. Experience with viruses, web site design and development, and/or analytical tool development is desirable. The work will be entirely computational (dry-lab) and, depending on the candidates qualification, will comprise a combination of bioinformatics analysis, programming and systems development and support, data management, data annotation, and outreach activities. Career development is a primary focus, and postdoctoral fellows are encouraged to seek independent funding, network with colleagues, develop collaborations, and attend and present at pertinent conferences.
