Job Summary

Teaching load consists of 15 hours of instruction per semester—a combination of teaching assignments in Composition, Literature, and/or Humanities—while participating in service activities and ongoing professional development. Faculty member will perform other duties as needed and be willing to teach online or face-to-face, to regular college students, Early College High School students, and Dual Credit students.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in English and either 18 graduate hours in Humanities or a minimum of three graduate hours in non-performance coursework in at least three of the following fields: Classics, Humanities, Music, History, Art, and Philosophy

Experience teaching college composition

Basic knowledge of classroom media and online Learning Management System

Expertise in instruction in Composition and Literature

Computer literacy to include experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. in English (or Classics, Humanities, Music, History, Art, or Philosophy)

Online teaching experience

Dual credit or early college high school teaching experience

Experience teaching Humanities

Quality Matters certification

Essential Functions

Teach 15 lecture equivalent hours of credit English and Humanities courses

Teaching in classroom and online

Willingness to teach dual credit and early college high school classes

Hold ten office hours per week and be available to students through email

Fulfill faculty roles and responsibilities as outlined in Midland College Policy 02:01:01

Participate in in-service activities and ongoing professional development

Design and teach courses using Canvas, both face to face and online

Communicate with students and provide strong and regular feedback electronically, by telephone, and face to face during office hours

Communicate with colleagues and supervisor regularly

Grade coursework and submit grades punctually

Serve and promote Midland College, the division, and the department

Participate in community service

Maintain engagement in academic profession

Participate in ongoing professional development, especially credit coursework to enhance teaching credentials

Serve on committees as assigned

Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

Must be able to manage a classroom and meet deadlines

Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time

Use of manual dexterity

Ability to lift or move up to 20 pounds

Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

Standard classroom environment, including possible high school classroom

Security Sensitivity

All Midland College positions are security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. An employment offer is contingent on completion of a satisfactory criminal background investigation.

Min Salary

$47,671 per year

Max Salary

$59,214 per year

Pay Statement

Salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience.
