What we want

The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to serve as a member of the laboratory team in the Center for Infectious and Inflammatory Diseases. We desire an individual who subscribes to and supports our commitment as stated above. We are seeking highly skilled and motivated postdoctoral candidates, to pursue interdisciplinary translational research. This position provides broad training to develop independent, highly motivated scientists in an outstanding collaborative research environment that integrates basic and translational sciences. The selected candidate will conduct research in antibiotic resistance mechanisms, collaborative discovery of anti-infective therapeutics, and bacterial physiology and virulence through chemical and molecular genetics. This person must be professional, enjoy working in a high-volume environment and be able to apply strong organizational skills while being flexible in their daily routine. Required Education:

  • Appropriate doctoral degree

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be literate in the English language and able to comprehend and follow both written and verbal Instructions

  • Excellent Interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills in English

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or related science

  • Experience with protein purifications, biochemical protein characterization, molecular biology, proteomics and genomics, animal models of infections, antimicrobial resistance

  • Experience working with diverse individuals and communities


Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge in cellular mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance, antimicrobial discovery and cellular biology

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, outstanding publication record, and the ability to perform independent research

Responsibilities:

  • Research Experiments - Conducts independent research relating to bacterial mechanisms of resistance and discovery and characterization of drug targets; carries out research problem solving; researches literature in connection to possible procedures and experiments; modifies experiments to suit the particular research needs. Prepares data for analysis and prepares samples. Obtains original research results. Organizes and maintains equipment used in the lab. Collects, records, complies, analyzes research data: documents and interprets results of experiments and reports to the principle investigator(s).

  • Laboratory - Assists in basic operation of the lab, organization of lab supplies, and maintenance of equipment. Participates in animal experiments to evaluate drug efficacy or pathogenesis. Prepares data for charts, graphs, photographs, figures, and manuscripts for papers, meetings, and for publication in journals. Prepares slides for presentation at scientific conferences and meetings. Assists with research grant proposals to funding agencies and provides publishable reports for conference and journal presentation. Conducts library research into new approaches.

  • Collaboration - Participates in weekly lab meetings within the center and other departments. Participates in joint projects involving faculty, junior lab personnel, and graduate students. Provides assistance to graduate students and junior lab personnel. Performs other duties as assigned.
