Lecturer, Master of Teaching - Foundations

The Sydney School of Education and Social Work (SSESW) has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Lecturer (Level B) in Master of Teaching - Foundations. The role is teaching focused with research and governance allocations (60:20:20) to work with the teaching team in postgraduate Master of Teaching (MTeach) Foundations suite of units. This role required teaching on campus.

Teaching (60%)

This position will contribute to the delivery of the Master of Teaching Foundations units, offered in first and second year to the MTeach postgraduate students. The Foundation units explore aspects of sociology, psychology, and philosophy through the lens of pedagogy. They also recognise relationships as being at the core of teaching - relationships between teaching and learning, students and teachers, schools, and the community, and between theory, research, and practice. Teaching duties will include unit coordination, lecturing, and tutoring. Coordination will be negotiated in consultation with the MTeach Coordinators and the Chair of Education Studies. Subject to negotiation, coordination and teaching will include MTeach units: EDMT5676; EDMT5502; EDMT6500 & EDMT6021.

Research (20%)

This teaching focused position includes a proportion of time for research activity and research outputs in collaboration with one or more members in MTeach and/or Education Studies in SSESW. Research experience in innovative research that focusses on research-led education is desirable. Research activity will be supported and planned in consultation with the Chair of Education Studies. There is an expectation that outputs will contribute to the activities within Education Studies, which supports the school and university strategic goals.

Governance, Leadership and Engagement - GLE (20%)

The position requires the role to contribute to SSESW GLE activities as appropriate for a Level B Academic. The position will be expected to undertake teaching administration duties, participate in school and faculty meetings and events.

About you

  • PhD in Education or related areas that can contribute to the broad focus of Foundations units in the Masters of Teaching
  • experience in teaching preservice teachers, preferably postgraduate (Masters of Teaching)
  • demonstrated success in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives
  • deep and broad experience in teaching and learning in a tertiary environment, as evidenced by participation in team teaching within an established program and experience in teaching in a variety of settings
  • experience in supervising or mentoring others and/or coordinating team activities
  • a proven ability, commitment and passion for engaging in scholarly activities to inform innovative pedagogical practice.

Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
