Position Summary | An NIH-funded postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in the laboratory of Dr. Matthew Flick at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Flick Lab is part of UNC’s internationally recognized Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and the newly formed UNC Blood Research Center. This position in the Flick Lab will center on the crosstalk between coagulation factors and pancreatic cancer. We use in vitro and in vivo animal models to elucidate bi-directional mechanisms through pancreatic tumors promote pathological activation of the coagulation system and thrombosis as well as the roles that proteins such as fibrinogen, thrombin, PAR-1, and plasminogen play in driving pancreatic cancer disease progression. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | Ph.D. in the biological sciences, such as molecular or cellular biology, biochemistry, clinical or medical laboratory science, or related areas, or an equivalent professional degree such as an MD, DO, or DVM. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Candidates must have prior research experience, experience with animal models of hemostasis/thrombosis and/or cancer, and experience with scientific writing (published, peer-reviewed scientific papers). Candidates must have high initiative and enthusiasm for research, exceptional organizational skills, and strong oral and written communication skills. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Experience in mouse models of hemostasis, thrombosis, and cancer pathogenesis is preferred, but not required. |
