Research Scientist

Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)
PhD (or foreign equivalent) in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, or closely related life sciences field. Three (3) years of full-time research experience in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry or pharmacology, to include at least one (1) year of research experience following attainment of a postdoctoral degree. Applicant must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. The candidate must be willing to take direction, work independently and with a team of several experts across fields.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Transcriptome-wide array-based RNA expression, DNA copy number variation by aCGH, genotyping by high resolution melting (HRM), Sanger and pyrosequencing.
  • DNA cloning, PCR, multiplex PCR, quantitative PCR.
  • mRNA quantification, cDNA library preparation, RT-PCR, qRT-PCR.
  • Protein expression, localization, purification, Western blot.
  • Tissue culture, primary cell culture, transfection, retroviral gene transduction, regulated gene expression.
  • Transgenic mice,
  • Flow cytometry/FACS, fluorescence microscopy, live high-speed imaging.
  • Data analysis, preparation of reports and materials for publications.

Brief Description of Duties:

  • Conduct research focused on uncovering the mechanisms of maintenance of redox homeostasis utilizing
  • in vivo and in vitro breast cancer models.
  • Provide general laboratory support including ordering supplies and maintaining  accurate laboratory and budget records.
  • Ensure quality control in equipment setup and maintenance, installation and commissioning, ordering of supplies all    
  • under the approved grant budgets and according to university and department policies.
  • Maintain the study protocol documents and compliance with all Institutional Review Board policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
