Faculty Position Assistant – Associate Professor – Tenure Earning Track
Department Microbiology and Immunology/Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center
The faculty’s research effort will focus on applying principles from molecular biology to engineer advanced biological therapeutics for genetic and infectious diseases, including HIV and cancer with hopes this work will also advance efforts to develop innovative experimentally validated pipelines for personalized cancer therapeutics.
In this role, you will play an integral role in our organization’s success. You will be expected to perform your duties and responsibilities in a professional and collegial manner. Your initial effort will be. 90% research, and 10% teaching, administrative activities and mentoring. This distribution of effort may change in future years based in your interests, Departmental needs, and your success in obtaining extramural funding to support your activities.90% research effort should be funded by a combination of grants and/or contracts to be transferred to the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine
As a component of your 10% effort that is not research related, participation in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology’s teaching mission is also expected with your faculty appointment. The Department will cover your 10% academic effort and support 10% of your salary.
The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, are seeking applicants in the area of immunotherapy to conduct and lead experimental research work related to of cancer, autoimmunity, HIV or infectious diseases. Applicants should have an outstanding research program in one or more of these areas at both early and advanced stage of their careers.
Faculty applicants at the level of Associate – full Professor (tenure-tenure earning track) should have a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent degree, an established and externally-funded independent research program and a track record of publications in these areas of research, show independence and laboratory management leadership. Candidates must also have a proven record as an educator at a higher education institution. Teaching and mentoring graduate students as well as medical and postdoctoral fellows will be necessary.
This position will be supported by the Department of Microbiology and Immunology and the School of Medicine. Funding may also be made available if the prospective candidate has a research program aligned with the mission of SCCC.
