Research Scientist, Laboratory of Applied Nuclear Physics (LANPh)

Job Description

RESEARCH SCIENTIST, Nuclear Science and Engineering (NSE)-Laboratory of Applied Nuclear Physics (LANPh), to work on groundbreaking research in the area of nuclear physics applied to problems in nuclear security, such as arms control, cargo security, and nuclear detection. Will contribute to existing projects at LANPh in leading/co-leading roles, guide graduate and undergraduate students in their research, design experiments and new engineering concepts, and do-author papers and proposals. 

Information about LANPh’s recent work is available at the following links:  1) arms control, and 2) use of compact neutron beams for Neutron Resonance Transmission Analysis (NRTA).  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  Ph.D.  in experimental nuclear physics, particle physics, high energy physics, nuclear engineering, or a very closely related field; solid publication record; and strong data analysis, Monte Carlo simulation, and communication skills.  PREFERRED:  experience with C++  and knowledge/use of ROOT libraries; knowledge of scientific computation in Python, GEANT4 libraries, MCNP, and low energy nuclear physics; some experience coding DAQ software; arms control and nuclear detection research experience; and experience leading graduate and/or undergraduate students in their research.  Job #22211
