Job Description


Emory University School of Medicine invites applications for an Instructor position in the Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology.  The Instructor will be responsible for using a combination of molecular and cellular biological approaches, human iPSC models, or animal models to discover new mechanisms and therapeutic targets for Alzheimer disease and Parkinson disease and facilitating ongoing molecular and translational neurodegeneration research in Dr. Lian Li’s laboratory.  Duties include designing, developing and conducting molecular/cellular biological experiments, and studying neurodegeneration mechanisms in human iPSC models or animal models, and identify and validate new targets for treating neurodegenerative diseases.  

The Instructor is expected to have advanced knowledge and expertise in molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, and mouse genetics and to make substantial contributions to the publication of the results.  The Instructor may assist in grant and other funding applications as necessary and appropriate, or obtain extramural support for his/her own research projects.  The Instructor can also take advantage of teaching opportunities in the School of Medicine and graduate school as they arise and participate in the training of graduate students, undergraduate students, lab technicians, and postdoctoral fellows.

Candidates must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree in the fields of neuroscience, cell biology, molecular biology, pharmacology, or biochemistry, postdoctoral experience and a demonstrated record of research excellence in neurodegenerative disease research, protein trafficking, posttranslational modifications, cell signaling, network biology, iPS cells, neuronal or glial cell cultures, microscopy, and/or neurodegeneration mouse models.
