Position
:

Seeking outstanding individual to assist with research and project management in the Thies Soil Ecology Laboratory. The position is located in the Section of Soil and Crop Sciences within the School of Integrative Plant Science (SIPS) at Cornell University. Research aims to strengthen understanding of the interaction between biochar particles and soil and the functionality of key soil exoenzymes. Effects of biochar on gene expression, and changes in soil bacterial and fungal communities and the enzymatic capacity of the soil community in response to biochar amendment in different soils. The incumbent will coordinate research, gather, manage and analyze data, write articles and reports, support teaching activities, and supervise undergraduate research students.


Anticipated Division of Time

Statistical analyses, writing, and publishing scientific articles 20%

Project management and coordination 30%

Laboratory and growth chamber experimentation and data collection 40%

Teaching activities 5%

Mentoring graduate students and other team members 5%


Position Requirements:

Successful candidates must have a PhD degree in Microbiology, Genomics, Ecology, Agronomy, Soil Science, or related discipline. Strong analytical and scientific writing skills and competency in genomics analyses are required. Interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a diverse, interdisciplinary team are essential. Interest and experience in soil ecology-biochar interactions and enzyme activity analyses are desirable.


Appointment:

Position is initially a 1-year, full-time appointment, with the option for extension contingent on funding, available work, and successful performance. The position is anticipated to start immediately or will remain open until filled. Salary is competitive and commensurate with background and experience. Benefits package is included.
