Description

 

SUMMARY

Ensure the safety of all students, faculty, staff and visitors and provide security for all campus facilities and college property.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBIITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

 

Patrol the buildings and parking areas of the campus, investigating any suspicious situation or individual, checking doors and windows to assure building security.

 

Monitor and report any irregularities, such as fire hazards, safety hazards, and security deficiencies.

 

Guard against theft of college property.

 

Direct traffic to assure safe and smooth flow of vehicles through parking areas.

 

Respond to complaints and calls, investigating the nature of the complaint and taking appropriate action; prepare and submit reports on incidents and actions taken, as well as other reports as may be required.

 

Inform violators of rule infractions on college property.

 

Provide general assistance to members of the campus community, such as jump-starts, lockouts, and directions.

 

Assist medical personnel as needed.

 

Arm and un-arm secured doors.

 

Assist Security Officers with day-to-day decisions concerning criminal offenses and disturbances.

 

Make court appearances, as a witness when required.

 

Inspect fire extinguishers.

 

Complete crime prevention surveys at his/her assigned campus.

 

Conduct crime prevention programs for students, faculty and staff.

 

Work closely with college administration to resolve conflicts between students.

 

Assist Police to Conduct preliminary criminal investigations and submit reports.

 

Assist Police to Conduct accident and injury investigations and submit reports.

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.  The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, physical requirements, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

 

EDUCATION

Copies of the following must be attached to your application for it to be considered:

  • High school diploma or GED certificate

  • Texas Driver’s License

  • If applicable, a copy of college transcript and military DD form 214 

 

  • Currently enrolled in Level 2 of HCC’s Basic Peace Officer Course.

  • Letter of Recommendation from the HCC Police Academy Program Director

  • Copy of cadet file contents including, TDL, SSN, DD214, L1, L2, L3, etc.  

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Strong observation skills

 

Must be able to remain calm during stressful situations, emergencies and disturbances and be a member of the emergency response organizations at the assigned location

 

Must be able to lift and move 25 lbs. without assistance

 

Must be able to run 100 yards without stopping and be functional upon completion 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Employees in this position will be scheduled to work rotating shifts in a 24/7 environment.  Employees will be expected to work holidays, nights and/or weekends to meet staffing and scheduling requirements.

 

Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License (Photocopy of driver’s license must accompany the application)

 

Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population

 

Knowledge of basic vehicle emergency procedures—jump-starting, changing flats, unlocking vehicles

 

Knowledge of state and local laws

 

Ability to assist full-time police staff mediate conflicts

 

Ability to communicate effectively in writing

 

Per HCC Policy C: 4.7 Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace, a drug and/or alcohol test is required if a conditional job offer is made.
