About the Opportunity

JOB SUMMARY

The Joshi Lab in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Northeastern University is seeking postdoctoral candidates to advance its efforts in the area of microbial engineering and materials science. The position will involve the design and production of genetically encoded novel synthetic biopolymers and their incorporation into functional materials and devices. A particular emphasis will be on the design and characterization of protein polymers with specialized electromechanical properties. Mentoring of younger students, engagement in the vibrant research community at Northeastern and participation in grant writing will be expected. Projects will involve international collaboration, so a willingness to work with a multi-disciplinary team is essential.

The position will be available starting immediately, and the appointment will be for 1 year, with contingencies related to paper publication and depending on continuation of funding.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

(1) Assist in initiating, executing, and completing research and experiments.

(2) Prepare and write research papers, presentations, grant proposals, etc.

(3) Laboratory management.

The primary responsibility of the postdoc is to conduct research. The postdoc is also expected to write research papers, present research at meetings, contribute to research proposals, manage research data and software, and assist in mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates should have a Ph.D. with a strong background in some combination of the following fields: microbial engineering, biochemistry, materials science. Strong candidates will also be prepared to contribute intellectually and creatively to project planning trajectory.
