Northeastern University

Job Description

About the Opportunity

About the Opportunity

Northeastern University, located in the heart of Boston, MA, welcomes applications for a two-year Postdoctoral Research Associate position. This position will provide an exciting opportunity to be involved in astrophysical observations and dark matter searches (NASA and DOE/NSF funded) while globally collaborating with other research groups. The successful candidate will engage in the Liquid Argon Time Projection Chamber (LArTPC ) detector development for an advanced Compton Camera and antimatter measurements at Northeastern University while involved in operation and data analysis for dark matter searches. As a Postdoctoral Research Associate, he/she will acquire valuable research skills through working on various projects and advance his/her scientific career.

Our group is involved in astrophysics/particle physics projects, General Antiparticle Spectrometer (GAPS), Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (SuperCDMS), and Gamma-Ray and AntiMatter Survey (GRAMS). GAPS  is a balloon-borne indirect dark matter search experiment via antinuclei measurements. We are currently preparing for the first science flight scheduled from the Antarctic in 2023. SuperCDMS is a joint DOE/NSF/CFI G2 direct dark matter search experiment located at SNOLAB in Canada. The early operation at the Cryogenic Underground TEst (CUTE) facility is ongoing, and the full operation in SNOLAB will begin in 2023. GRAMS is a next-generation balloon/satellite mission targeting both MeV gamma-ray observations and antimatter-based indirect dark matter searches using LArTPC. We are currently testing a prototype detector and aiming for the science balloon flight in the late 2020s, followed by a potential upgrade with a satellite mission in the 2030s.

Responsibilities

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will perform basic or applied research of a limited scope, primarily using existing theories and methods.
