JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:


The Center for Childhood Obesity Research (CCOR) within the College of Health and Human Development at Penn State https://hhd.psu.edu/ccor , invites applications for a Research Data Analyst to join our dynamic team. The overall mission of the Center for Childhood Obesity Research is to conduct interdisciplinary research that contributes to the evidence base needed to inform successful childhood obesity prevention programs that can then be disseminated to public health and clinical practice audiences. 


 


The successful candidate must have relevant experience with data management and data analysis. This position will oversee multiple experimental, observational, and longitudinal research studies in children and families, requiring strong project management experience.  


 


Primary responsibilities include: 


  • Develop & oversee data management across multiple ongoing research projects  

  • Oversee the design, development, and coordination of study forms, instruments, measurement write-ups, equipment and protocols 

  • Perform statistical analyses in SAS, including writing SAS programs for treatment randomization, data summaries and data analysis 

  • Supervise records and statistical reports and communicate statistical results (via presentations, written reports, and visual display strategies)

  • Develop proposals, research plans, statements of work, standard operating procedures and IRB applications  

  • Maintain appropriate compliance documents and reports as required by University and funding agencies  

  • Oversee and manage projects including developing project plans, scheduling, monitoring, and reporting 

  • Provide leadership to project/program including initiating, conducting, reporting, and providing project management 

  • Collaborates on grant proposals, manuscripts, reports, presentations, and other scientific deliverables 

  • Advise investigators and administrators on appropriate methodologies and resources to implement projects/programs 

  • Prepare and send data to other researchers in support of collaborative/cooperative projects to achieve the goals of CCOR  

  • Assist with hiring, training, supervising and mentoring research staff, postdoctoral scholars, graduate students and undergraduate research assistants for successful execution and completion of projects  

  • Communicates and forms relationships with diverse stakeholders to understand project requirements, goals, and risks/barriers to project success   

  • Develop and implement quality improvement practices and process 

  • Act as liaison between CCOR and other University offices such as Information Technology Services  

  • Read and interpret findings, address gaps, and draw conclusions  


 


Education and Experience:

This position will be filled at either a level 3 or a level 4.


A level 3 typically requires a Bachelor's Degree or higher plus 4 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

A level 4 typically requires a Bachelor's Degree or higher plus 6 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

A degree in Statistics, Data Science, Applied Statistics, Biostatistics, Psychology, Human Development, Public Health, Biobehavioral Health, Nutrition or a related field is required/preferred.

Preferred experience includes: 


  • Proficient and comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices and procedures related to this position 

  • Advanced statistical skills, experience managing and working with large datasets, and experience with behavioral, longitudinal and/or family-based research  

  • Proficiency with SAS statistical software and Microsoft Office suite (e.g. MS Excel)  

  • Proven experience in successfully collaborating within diverse interdisciplinary social, behavioral, or health sciences teams 

  • Experience with research regulatory agencies (e.g. IRB, NIH)   

  • Experience working with project management software or willingness to learn and become fluent with using technological tools for project and program management purposes 

  • Effective management of study teams 

  • Use of data to inform decisions 

  • Use of diplomacy and effective decision making to manage multiple competing priorities and perspectives 

  • Experience with the electronic research data collection tool REDCap  

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) 

  • Highly organized and ability to multi-task as projects are varied  

  • Meticulous attention to detail  

  • Ability to establish effective relationships with others 

  • High level of self-direction, motivation and personal accountability and ability to identify and solve problems independently

his position may occasionally require work on weekends and evenings.

This is a limited-term position funded for one year from date of hire with an excellent possibility for renewal.  


 


This position requires the following clearances: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.
