Mentor: Dr. Glenn Rowe, Division of Cardiovascular Disease

A postdoctoral position is available in the Division of Cardiovascular Disease in the laboratory of Dr. Glenn C. Rowe (https://scholars.uab.edu/display/gcrowe). The project aims to identify the molecular mechanisms that contribute to skeletal muscle atrophy in response to mitochondrial dysfunction. The project will utilize a combination of genetic and surgical models, as well as pharmacological interventions to dissect the contribution of FGF signaling to the development of muscle atrophy.� The applicant will develop extensive training in the area of skeletal muscle biology and mitochondrial function.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • D. and/or M.D. degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Physiology, Biochemistry or a related field.
  • The ideal candidate should be creative, highly motivated, able to work independently as well as in a collaborative team, good communication skills and have a record of research accomplishments.

Preferences:

  • Experience in rodent handling and survival surgeries.
  • Experience in basic molecular biology and cell culture techniques.
  • Experience in working with translational models.
  • Experience in writing and publishing research articles.
