You will be responsible for the design and start-to-end simulation of the LiNuS accelerator system including incorporation into the existing radiation shielding infrastructure. This position is in the Nuclear Physics and Accelerator Technologies Group of the Nuclear and Chemical Sciences Division.

In this role you will

  • Perform beam dynamics simulations of the accelerator system including the source, beam transport sections, accelerator sections, compression system, and distribution to experimental end stations
  • Perform radio frequency and magnetic modeling of accelerator structures, deflector cavities, and transport magnets
  • Oversee the fabrication, low-power, and high-power testing of novel ion accelerator structures
  • Functioning as part of a team, collaborate with scientists, engineers and technicians in the assembly, commissioning, operations, and maintenance work on RF accelerator systems currently being operated in Building 194
  • Publish research results in peer-reviewed scientific or technical journals and present results at external conferences, seminars, and/or technical meetings
  • Work in close collaboration with colleagues at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory to model, fabricate, and test accelerator structures
  • Provide technical contributions to new proposals for accelerator-driven science at LLNL, specifically utilizing the Neutron Imaging, Mega-Ray Test Station, and PRISM accelerators operated in Building 194
