Xavier President Michael J. Graham, S.J., announced the selection of Scott A. Chadwick, PhD, as the University's new Provost and Chief Academic Officer. Chadwick succeeds Roger Fortin, Xavier’s current Academic Vice President and Provost, who is stepping down at the end of the 2010-2011 academic year and returning to the classroom. Fortin has served in that position for 10 years.
Chadwick begins his duties on July 1.
Chadwick has many years of experience in higher education, including at two sister Jesuit schools: Canisius College in Buffalo and Creighton University in Omaha. At Canisius since 2007, Chadwick served as the Vice President for Academic Affairs, as the Mission & Identity officer and as a professor of communications studies. And at Creighton, Chadwick served as Assistant Vice President and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Prior to Creighton, Chadwick served as a faculty member for nine years with the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication at Iowa State University, and earlier with the Department of Speech Communication at Oregon State University.
Chadwick earned his PhD in communication studies from the University of Kansas in 1994. He also holds an MBA in finance from the University of Kansas and a Bachelor of Science in psychology from the University of Iowa. After earning his MBA, Chadwick worked with Sprint, Firestone and Arthur Andersen prior to pursuing his PhD at Kansas.
