A search committee hopes to have a new chancellor at the University of South Carolina Upstate by July 1.
Current Chancellor John Stockwell announced last month he is retiring in August after 17 years, leaving a legacy of widespread growth on the campus.
The 17-member search committee was appointed by University of South Carolina President Harris Pastides. The members met for the first time earlier this month in Spartanburg to develop a timeline and begin the process.
A tentative timeline calls for interviews, likely done by video conference to cut costs, with 12 candidates. After the field is narrowed, the committee plans to conduct in-person interviews on the campus with as many as five finalists in March or early April.
