Connors State College President Donnie Nero announced he will retire June 30 — but his plans sound like anything but retirement.
“I won’t be able to sit around doing nothing since I’ve worked all my life,” Nero said. “So, I’ll probably be involved in some consulting services and will be focusing on working with youth in the community in various capacities and mentoring.”
Nero and his wife Shirley Nero will reside in Clearview after his retirement where they’ll continue their community work.
Clearview, between Okemah and Henryetta, is one of the historical black towns of Oklahoma, Nero said.
“That’s where we’ll be staying and working in that community and other communities around the state as needed,” Nero said. “But we’ll be focusing quite a bit Okfuskee County.”
