Warwick A. Arden, N.C. State's interim provost for more than a year, will stay in the university's top academic job.
Arden, 53, was named provost and executive vice chancellor Friday afternoon. The appointment was made by Chancellor Randy Woodson and approved by the trustee board's Academic Affairs and Personnel Committee.
Arden is well-known on the NCSU campus, where he was dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine for nearly five years. N.C. State's vet school is ranked among the top five in the United States. It has more than 155 faculty, 400 staff members and a budget of $68 million.
"Dr. Arden is a very accomplished scholar and educator and will provide tremendous leadership as we build on N.C. State's rich tradition in academic excellence," Woodson said in a statement.
Arden's salary will be $315,000. As provost, he is the chief academic officer, overseeing academic planning, budgets and personnel matters, including faculty hiring, promotion and tenure.
