University of Iowa President Sally Mason announced today the formation of a Provost Search Committee to find a replacement for Wallace Loh, who stepped down in November to become president of the University of Maryland, College Park.
Barry Butler, who was dean of the UI College of Engineering when Loh announced his departure, is serving as interim UI provost.
The committee is composed of faculty, staff and students from across campus, including Faculty Senate leadership, Staff Council leadership and both undergraduate and graduate student leadership. The committee will be co-chaired by Dr. Keith Carter, head of the UI Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences in the UI Carver College of Medicine, and Richard Fumerton, professor in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences’ Department of Philosophy and vice president of the Faculty Senate.
