A search committee chose a Capital Projects director from the University of Washington to fill the position of Associate Vice President for Facilities Services at WSU.
Olivia Yang, the interim director for strategic initiatives in Capital Projects at UW, will transition to her new job at WSU in early January.
Yang will take over for Gerald Schlatter, who retired from a similar role in September after an 11-year tenure working on more than $1 billion in capital construction projects.
“Everyone gave glowing remarks about her leadership skills,” said Roger Patterson, the vice president of Business and Finance at WSU. “She’s very team-oriented, and that came out strongly in her interview.” That is an important quality for someone in this position, Patterson said, as Yang will assume command of more than 400 staffers working with a $28 million budget.
He said Yang likes to create teams across organizations and praised her ability to bring people within an organization together.
