The board of regents of Southeastern University, responding to complaints from several quarters about the lack of progress in the search for a new president, has revamped the search committee and has chosen a Lakeland pastor as its chairman.
The Rev. Wayne Blackburn, pastor of Victory Church, was picked by the regents on Nov. 3 at a special meeting as part of a shakeup of the search process. Blackburn said Friday that the regents were frustrated that almost 18 months have passed since Mark Rutland left Southeastern to become president of Oral Roberts University with no prospective candidate. But he said things are now moving forward quickly.
"There are a lot of high expectations. I think within a few months we're going to see a new president," he said.
