High Point University hires John Turner as assistant music professor

Dr. John Turner has been hired as assistant professor of music in the Department of Music at High Point University.
In his new position, Turner will be responsible for implementing the recently revised music core curriculum, which combines music literature, history of music, music theory and aural skills. Additionally, Turner will teach student musicians who play string instruments, in order to promote music making as a lifetime activity and build a string ensemble capable of performing masterworks from the literature.
"When I was offered the position at High Point University, there was never any question in my mind that I should take it," says Turner. "The university, as a whole, and the music department specifically, have the leadership and vision to move to the next level of innovation in collegiate instruction, and I am eager to play a role in creating the structures and methods that I believe will be standard practice in the future."
Turner, who is originally from Tacoma, Wash., received a Bachelor of Music degree and a Master of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music, as well as a Doctor of Music Arts degree and a certificate in music theory pedagogy from the from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
