Maria Pallavicini named provost at U. of the Pacific in Stockton

Maria Pallavicini has been named the next provost at University of the Pacific in Stockton.
Ms. Pallavicini, currently the founding dean of the School of Natural Sciences at the University of California, Merced, was selected after a year-long national search. She will begin as Provost on Feb.1, 2011.
“Maria Pallavicini is a renowned researcher and a committed teacher who also has had the unusual experience of building world-class academic programs from the ground up,” says Pacific President Pamela Eibeck. “She stands out as an exceptional choice to lead Pacific’s ambitious academic goals.”
As provost, Ms. Pallavicini will serve as the University’s chief academic officer and have overall responsibility for the institution’s educational and research programs, library services, enrollment, financial aid, registrar and continuing education. She will oversee Pacific’s liberal arts college and eight other schools on campuses in Stockton, Sacramento and San Francisco, encompassing 120 academic programs, 839 faculty, 6,700 students, and a $115 million budget.
