UC Davis has named a new vice chancellor of research, the first major appointment since Chancellor Linda Katehi took the helm of the university last year and a significant step in her plans to restructure the campus.
Katehi has selected Harris A. Lewin to head UC Davis' research office, which oversees scientific research, intellectual property and technology transfer, the process for bringing university inventions to the commercial marketplace. Those are areas Katehi wants to make more robust at UC Davis.
"One of my top goals is to transform our research enterprise here at UC Davis and increase total research awards to $1 billion annually, and I am convinced that Harris Lewin is the person best-suited to take us to the next level," Katehi said in a statement Monday.
