University of Colorado Chancellor Phil DiStefano named Russell L. Moore as provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs on the Boulder campus today.
DiStefano asked the CU Board of Regents to waive a national search for the provost because the Council of Deans and the Executive Committee of the Boulder Faculty Assembly support the appointment. And, DiStefano said, the appointment “is designed to provide stable campus leadership over the next few years.”
“I am pleased that we have turned to a respected scholar and one of our ablest administrators to lead the academic mission at CU-Boulder,” DiStefano said in a statement. “Russ has been an outstanding researcher, teacher and member of our esteemed faculty, and has shown a remarkable ability to lead, manage and inspire our academic community. I believe he will make an outstanding provost.”
The appointment will be effective Oct. 13 and will end no later than Oct. 12, 2013. Moore has been serving as interim provost since July 1 and was interim vice chancellor for research from May 2009 to June 30.
