The Board of Regents approved the extension of President Elson S. Floyd's contract at their Friday meeting. "The extension of the contract is not so much a reflection of my work, but it's clearly a reflection of the work of my team," Floyd said. "I am just privileged to serve as president of Washington State University. I will do all I possibly can to make sure we continue our advancement of the university."
The president's contract was extended to June 30, 2016, Executive Director of Internal Communications James Tinney said. His original contract ran through June 30, 2012.
The renewed contract contains most of the same terms as Floyd's original deal, Board of Regents Chair Laura Jennings said. He will keep his annual salary of $725,000 and will continue to give $100,000 of that money back to the university. "I think that Elson has done a fabulous job of leading the university through a time that's been very difficult for everyone financially," she said. "And I think it's more important than ever that we ensure continuity of leadership."
