Royce Engstrom made his first public appearance on campus Tuesday afternoon as president-elect during a press conference where he announced that Dean Perry Brown would become interim provost.
Brown recently served as Interim Associate Provost for Graduate Education and has been Dean of the School of Forestry since the mid-1990s. According to Engstrom, he was selected because of their close working relationship over the last few years.
With Brown becoming interim provost, Engstrom announced that due to the flurry of changes already occurring on campus this fall, the search for a new provost wouldn't start until next fall, meaning Brown will remain in the position for up to two years.
"It's exciting ... It's (a role) where I can serve the entire university," Brown said, adding that their work would go beyond Missoula and affect every University of Montana campus.
