More than 1,000 people filled Delaware State University's Memorial Gymnasium to see Harry L. Williams officially sworn in as the school's 10th president.
For Williams, who has been in office since the beginning of the year, it served as validation for the impression he has made on the university community during his short tenure. Many took the opportunity to celebrate Williams as a humble, driven leader capable of taking the Dover campus to a new level.
"Countless interviews, meetings and tours go into selecting the right person for the right time," Board of Trustees President Claibourne Smith said. "I'm proud to say we got it right selecting Harry as our 10th president of Delaware State University."
One-by-one, elected officials, fellow university presidents and DSU colleagues stepped to the microphone to praise Williams.
"You are indeed a breath of fresh air," Faculty Senate President Charlie Wilson said. "Continue to seek our counsel. Continue to challenge us to greatness. Continue to value us as partners."
