Luanne Lawrence new U. of South Carolina communications VP

Luanne Lawrence, vice president for University Advancement at Oregon State University, has been named vice president for Communications for the University of South Carolina following a nationwide search, OSU officials announced today.
Lawrence, an award-winning marketing communications leader who has held her current post at OSU since 2004, has overseen such visibility-raising efforts as the university’s Powered by Orange campaign and projects to modernize OSU communications, including creation of OSU’s first integrated marketing communications plan and the recent re-launch of the university’s top-tier web presence. University Advancement work has garnered national recognition over the past several years, most recently the top prize for advertising campaigns from The Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, one of the world’s largest education associations.
Under her leadership, the university developed brand identity guidelines, established Terra research magazine and helped guide the development of a social media strategy.
At the University of South Carolina, home to some 42,000 students on eight campuses, Lawrence will oversee the Division of Communications, which comprises the main functions related to marketing, public relations and communications.
“We’re grateful for the leadership that Luanne has provided over the past six years toward raising Oregon State University’s profile and engagement with the various audiences critical to our success,” said Ed Ray, president of OSU. “She leaves behind a solid communications and marketing infrastructure that will stand OSU in good stead in the coming years.”
Lawrence’s appointment at OSU will end effective June 30, providing for transition time before her new role at USC begins in fall. OSU leadership will announce transition leadership plans for University Advancement before the end of the month.
