Raul Rodriguez has finally reached the level he has dreamed of for so long.
The man who has served as the president of San Joaquin Delta College for the past eight years has accepted a position as the chancellor of the Rancho Santiago Community College in Orange County.
Rodriguez, 58, has been open about wanting to be a chancellor and was happy to finally be offered a position to do so after applying at multiple districts over the past few years.
"Of course I was pleased, because being a chancellor has been a career goal and I couldn't be going to a better district. The Rancho Santiago District is an excellent district and it is the third-largest community college district in the entire state," Rodriguez said. "The San Joaquin County region is a wonderful community, and I will miss the many friends and acquaintances that I have made during my eight years at Delta."
He will begin the job, which includes a salary of $250,000 that amounts to a $60,000 raise from his base salary at Delta, on Aug. 9. Rodriguez's last day at Delta will be Aug. 6.
"Dr. Rodriguez has a statewide reputation as a community college leader, having served as a college president for more than 15 years," Rancho Santiago District Board of Trustees President Lawrence Labrado said in a press release. "His professional experience demonstrates that he has the knowledge and skills to lead a district of our size and complexity."
