An Eastern Washington University provost has resigned amid conflict with college faculty days before a rumored vote of no confidence by the faculty union’s elected officers.
John Mason, provost and vice president of academic affairs, submitted his letter Friday. It is effective June 30.
A memo from the College of Science, Health and Engineering outlined faculty complaints, including that Mason “has repeatedly shown an inability to make timely decisions,” such as taking too long on hiring decisions, and making curricular changes in science when his expertise is in English.
The vote of no confidence was expected today during a regularly scheduled union meeting.
