Bryn Mawr College has named Laurie Koehler, who currently serves as director of admission at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, its the new dean of admissions, announced Jenny Rickard, Chief Enrollment and Communications Officer. Koehler will join Bryn Mawr this summer.
“After a nationwide search in which we met with many truly outstanding candidates, we decided that Laurie’s creativity, professional experience, grasp of the admission and recruitment landscape, and appreciation of Bryn Mawr’s distinctive mission made her the ideal choice,” said Rickard.
Koehler has been director of admission at Miami University since March of 2007. Under her leadership Miami has enrolled the most racially/ethnically and socioeconomically diverse class in its 200-year history.
“As the dean of admissions I plan to take every action with a commitment to three guiding principles: excellence, access, and diversity,” said Koehler. “Higher education has the ability to profoundly transform individuals, entire families, and communities, and I am proud to be joining a college community that holds similar beliefs, and that recruits and enrolls outstanding students who aspire to make a meaningful contribution to the world.”
During her time at Miami, Koehler also led a restructuring of the admission organization, better aligning positions, people, and resources with office and university goals. She increased opportunities for professional development by members of the admission staff and introduced a more strategic approach to Miami’s enrollment efforts, ensuring that operational decisions were based on the best available research and data.
“Laurie’s experience will be a tremendous asset as Bryn Mawr continues to transition to a more consolidated student-services structure that will allow the College to be even more responsive to our undergraduate and graduate students’ needs,” said Rickard.
