Robert C. Helmer, president of Lourdes University in Sylvania, Ohio, has been named the ninth president of Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea.
The appointment is effective July 1. He will succeed Richard W. Durst, B-W's president since 2006, who retires June 30. Dr. Helmer was chosen after a national search; he was approved unanimously at the winter meeting of the B-W board of trustees
Dr. Helmer “has established himself as a dynamic leader with demonstrated strengths in curriculum development, enrollment, campus life, fundraising and facility development during his tenure at Lourdes," said Paul Carleton, chairman of the B-W board and chairman of the Presidential Search Committee, in a statement.
"He also has a personal warmth and presence that already has connected with many portions of our college community,” Mr. Carleton said.
Dr. Helmer has been president of Lourdes since 2003. He joined the faculty there in 1996 and was appointed vice president for academic affairs in 2001. Prior to arriving at Lourdes, he was a teaching fellow and research assistant at Marquette University from 1991 to 1996.
