The University of Nebraska-Lincoln announced Wednesday that an Indiana University dean will become its new dean of the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts on July 1.
Charles "Chuck" O'Connor has served as dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne since 2008. He was among four candidates for the post, which was vacated by Giacomo Oliva last May. After 10 years at UNL, Oliva left to become provost of the Fashion Institute of Technology at the State University of New York.
Before his current job in Indiana, O'Connor was chairman and executive director of the department of theater at the Nevada Conservatory Theatre from 2003-2008 at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He was a professor in UNL's department of theater arts from 1993-2003, when he co-founded an interdisciplinary program in film and new media. The program implemented the early use of digital technology and interactive media.
