Building on a long-standing commitment to pre-college, continuing, and professional programs, Hofstra University looks to expand its reach through a focused expansion of its professional education offerings for adult learners, working professionals and employer organizations. This effort will be led by a Vice Provost for Professional Studies at Hofstra University who will report to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs.
The Vice-Provost for Professional Studies at Hofstra University will be responsible for envisioning strategy and identifying opportunities for growth in the space of professional education including opportunities – in-person, online, and hybrid- including short-term non-credit programs, certificate, badge, and/or professional diploma programs as well as providing support for the academic schools in launching new master’s or other programs. Ideal candidates will have a sustained record of academic accomplishment and fiscal success, demonstrated skill in leadership of professional studies programs, an understanding of fundraising and grant acquisition, the ability to develop and deliver new programs, enhance/promote existing programs, manage resources, recruit and develop a diverse team consistent with revenue growth, and the ability to foster interdisciplinary collaboration with other academic programs within the University and the community.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides vision and leadership for the division of Professional Studies including a comprehensive review of existing offerings, and preparation of a strategic plan to develop new opportunities with the potential for growth and net revenue generation.
Develops effective outreach, recruitment and marketing plans which utilize staff resources and contemporary media and information systems.
Collaborates with Deans, Faculty, and University Leadership in the development of a team to oversee this effort as well as the delivery of the resulting expanded portfolio of programs.
Cultivates and maintains relationships across campus and in the community to advance the contributions of the division of Professional Studies in the context of the University.
Works collaboratively with University faculty and staff and builds partnerships with external organizations and businesses to create high quality, accessible programs that meet the current needs of diverse audiences and anticipate future opportunities.
Develops and maintains a strong portfolio of business partner relationships.
Leverages knowledge of market and competitors to identify and develop unique opportunities and differentiators.
Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated experience in the field of adult continuing and professional education, including experience in research, marketing, and promoting programs
Demonstrated experience with relevant learning technologies, including online programs.
An outstanding record of fiscal success and effectively managing people; a strong team orientation, along with a willingness to circulate widely and listen well.
Proven success in the context of shared governance and collaborative decision-making with multiple stakeholder groups.
Knowledge of pedagogical strategies suited to non-traditional students.
Demonstrated experience in strategic planning.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
