Vice Provost for Research and Dean of the Graduate School
The Vice Provost for Research and Dean of the Graduate School oversees the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP), the Office of Research Compliance, Tech Launch, the Graduate Institute of Technology (GIT), and the Graduate School. The Vice Provost/Dean reports to the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost and will be a member of the Provost’s leadership team, the Deans Council. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Proactively support research by faculty, graduate/undergraduate students and staff, including research sponsored externally, but also research for which funding may not be readily available;
Promote and support other sponsored activities, contracts, and programs at UA Little Rock, such as training, evaluation, or service contracts or externally funded graduate assistantships;
Work to expand capacity for extramural funding, which includes serving as a liaison with state and local research centers as well as potential external funding sources, and ensuring that the research support offices are operating effectively;
Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations affecting the research operation;
Champion research by students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, including providing logistical support for the annual Student Research and Creative Works Expo;
Provide administrative oversight of graduate education and curriculum to ensure compliance with standards, policies, and viability;
Provide administrative oversight of graduate recruitment and admissions, graduate assistantships, graduate student services, and other graduate school functions;
Provide administrative oversight of ORSP including the pre and post award functions;
Work with academic deans to identify how current and potential graduate programs may best align to UA Little Rock’s strategic plan and emerging state and workforce needs;
Work with academic deans to engage in appropriate marketing and recruitment efforts to expand and diversify graduate student enrollment;
Create an environment to support and encourage research and sponsored projects;
Work with campus and the community increase research funding to UA Little Rock;
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experienced visionary and entrepreneurial leader with excellent communication skills;
Ability to develop a graduate education plan consistent with the vision of the university and promote the creation of innovative and relevant graduate programs;
Demonstrated record of significant accomplishments in graduate education;
Experience in facilitating faculty development;
Experience in promoting student success especially with regard to recruitment, retention, and graduation;
Ability to promote UALR’s graduate programs with industry, state, and federal organizations, and the general community;
Ability to foster collaborations between diverse stakeholders;
Ability to use customer service initiatives to interact with clients and campus community;
Ability to streamline admissions processes and degree progression using supportive technologies;
Required Education and/or Experience
Terminal degree in any field, tenured associate or full professor at UA Little Rock, experience as a PI on an externally funded grant project, demonstrated success with research, graduate education and leadership, and a minimum of three years of higher education administrative experience.
Preferred Education and/or Experience
Experience as a graduate coordinator. Experience with curriculum or other program development. Experience with strategic alignment of programs with university mission and goals.
