Vice President for Advancement
Coe College invites applications and nominations for the Vice President for Advancement. This is an extraordinary opportunity to provide strategic and operational leadership at one of the finest liberal arts colleges in the Midwest.
Coe College is a selective, private, nationally recognized four-year coeducational liberal arts institution that has provided a superior education for students in a residential setting since 1851. With 1,400 students, Coe's attractive campus is located in the heart of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a metropolitan area of 175,000 people. Cedar Rapids was recently named one of America's top six mid-sized cities due to its thriving economy, high level of educational attainment, and cultural opportunities. Located within an easy drive of the Midwest's largest cities, Cedar Rapids is also served by most major airlines, making it an ideal base for travel.
The Vice President for Advancement will report directly to the President and work closely with the Board of Trustees. She or he will lead Coe's fundraising and alumni affairs programs, including major gifts, donor relations, annual fund, and planned giving. The Vice President will serve on the senior staff and will be a key participant in developing a new strategic plan for the college.
The search for a Vice President is part of a planned transition following the successful completion of a $90 million campaign. The college has a $92 million endowment, growing enrollment, and a strong base of alumni and foundation support in Cedar Rapids and across the country. The next stage of planning will offer the opportunity for expanding advancement operations and enhancing the college's communications and visibility efforts.
Candidates should have a record of fund-raising success, significant experience in leading one or more aspects of the advancement program in a non-profit organization, and the ability to identify and adopt best practices in the field. The Vice President must be a strong communicator and community builder, both on and off campus. Successful candidates will have the capacity for planning at the institutional level as well as the organizational, supervisory, and management skills needed for an effective advancement operation.
The target starting date is July 1, 2014, although the college will be flexible based on candidates' availability.
