Job Description:

Pacific University (Pacific or the University) seeks an accomplished leader to serve as Dean of its School of Pharmacy (Pharmacy or the School). Founded in 2006, Pharmacy is one of eight schools comprising Pacific's College of Health Professions (CHP or the College). It offers a three-year, block-based curriculum leading to the doctoral (PharmD) degree. The School maintains an enrollment of approximately 300 students and is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education.

The School is located on Pacific's Hillsboro, Oregon campus, which is part of the Health and Education District being developed in partnership with the city of Hillsboro, Tuality Community Hospital, Portland Community College and the Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Clinic. Hillsboro is located seven miles east of Pacific's historic campus in Forest Grove and 18 miles west of Portland.

Pacific University, founded by transplanted New England Congregationalists in 1849, is the first chartered institution of higher learning in the Pacific Northwest. Originally a traditional undergraduate, residential, liberal arts school it now also offers graduate programs in four of its five colleges: Health Professions, Arts and Sciences, Optometry and Education. A new College of Business, launched in July 2013, offers undergraduate and, beginning January 2014, graduate business majors. Currently, the University's enrollment totals approximately 3600 students.

The Dean has overall responsibility for the leadership and management of the School. S/he is its chief academic and budget officer and its representative on CHP's Deans and Directors Council and other University committees and groups. The Dean also serves as a visible, engaged representative of the School and the University to the external community. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of pharmacy education issues and trends and a working knowledge of the role of pharmacy education relative to the other health professions represented in CHP. The role requires a record of successful administrative leadership, resource development, and financial management experience. S/he will value student-centered, interprofessional and inquiry-based learning models. The Dean will value and support the faculty's research and scholarly endeavors and provide leadership to the clinical aspects of the curriculum. The Dean will be committed to fostering diversity and inclusivity on campus. The position reports to Pacific's Vice Provost and Executive Dean for the College of Health Professions, Ann Barr-Gillespie.

The search process is underway and will continue until the position is filled. To assure full consideration, the search committee prefers that candidate credentials be submitted before December 1, 2013. Requests for a detailed Position Specification, nominations, confidential inquiries, and applications (including a cover letter and curriculum vitae) should be submitted electronically to the consultant supporting this search: E. Kay Dawson JD at kaydawson@comcast.net. Confidential inquiries concerning this search may also be directed to her at 503.292.4889.
