Job Summary

The Director of Marketing & Communications oversees all marketing functions for the College, which includes social media, digital, broadcast and print. The Director manages and maintains the College’s social media account and is also responsible for managing internal communications and maintaining the “News” and “Events” portion of the College website. The Director of Marketing & Communications supervises staff who answer the College main telephone number, and this position is responsible for ensuring that the telephone is answered at all times that administrative and student services offices are open. The Director of Marketing & Communications produces graphic arts and printed publications and also supervises staff responsible who assist with production of posters, fliers and other marketing/recruitment material. In addition, this position is responsible for overseeing that photographs are taken of college events and instructional programs as requested. This position also assists with writing press releases and relaying pertinent information to local news media.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in marketing or related field

Minimum of two years’ marketing experience

Excellent computer skills—must be proficient using Adobe products including In-Design and PhotoShop

Thorough knowledge of social media trends and ability to use social media to promote College messages

Ability to effectively manage time and priorities in order to meet established deadlines

Understanding of marketing outreach methods to effectively communicate the educational opportunities, branding messages and mission of the College

Detail oriented and highly organized

Ability to work in a team environment with multiple, sometimes changing priorities

Strong communication, leadership and presentation skills

Ability to formulate and manage delivery of messages through multiple outreach methods, such as printed publications, web-based, digital and broadcast media

Excellent writing and proofing skills

Must possess valid Texas Driver License, good driving record and be insurable on Midland College auto insurance policy

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree

Community college experience

Specific work experience in higher education marketing or communications setting

Essential Functions

Develop marketing strategies and direct activities which communicate to external constituents a positive, progressive institutional image consistent with the vision and mission of the College

Manage College advertising budget

Coordinate with Student Services and Instructional divisions to develop and produce college recruitment material

Maintain an effective program of internal and student-focused communication activities that foster and promote awareness of the College’s activities and successes

Provide guidance for a program of institutional advertising designed to support the marketing and communications objectives of the College in order to promote a growing and representative enrollment for the College and its educational programs

Provide proofing for marketing materials as well as oversight for major recruitment publications and printed materials

Serve on College or advisory committees as needed to provide input and support regarding matters that affect marketing

Provide oversight to ensure that Midland College activities are promoted and photographed

Maintain the “News” and “Events” section of the College website

Manage College social media accounts and use social media for recruitment, promotion of events and to generate goodwill

Manage incoming calls to the College’s main published telephone number (432-685-4500), provide oversight for incoming telephone calls and supervise employees answering this phone line

Manage and develop posters, fliers and other print material for recruitment, event promotion, etc., and supervise the production of these materials

Assist the Executive Director of Institutional Advancement with special events to include lecture and performing arts series, groundbreakings, press conferences, etc.

Assist with press releases, media advisories and other communication to local media teams

Other duties as assigned

Min Salary 55,000 per year
Max Salary 65,000 per year
Pay Statement Salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience.
