The Institution

The Los Rios Community College District is a two-year public college district serving the greater Sacramento region. Our district includes American River, Cosumnes River, Folsom Lake and Sacramento City colleges; major centers in Placerville, Davis, West Sacramento, Elk Grove, Natomas and Rancho Cordova; and special services for business and industry.

 

Our colleges offer transfer education – students complete freshman and sophomore years and transfer to a four-year college or university – and AA/AS degrees and certificates in over 70 career fields. The District’s 2400 square mile service area includes Sacramento and El Dorado counties and parts of Yolo, Placer, and Solano counties. Approximately 75,000 plus students are enrolled in our four colleges and outreach centers.

 

The District office houses a number of district-wide services. These include the Chancellor’s office, Board Room, Legal Services, Business Services, Human Resources, Institutional Research, District Police Department, Resource Development and Information Technology. Other district-wide services which can be found at various locations around the community are the, Facilities Management Department and the Workforce and Economic Development Center. Each department strives for the highest quality in all programs, services, and activities for our communities and staff.

 

Position Summary

Under the direction of an assigned administrator, plans, organizes and performs complex professional-level budget and accounting duties; performs complex and responsible analytical studies; prepares and presents management information reports. May develop and conduct training programs on college/District business services operating procedures for staff. Works with District fiscal services staff on processes and procedures which necessitate interface between college and District. May be designated as an authorized signer.

 

Under general supervision of the assigned administrator, performs various duties requiring initial contact with students and their financial aid records. Operations and resources are well defined.

Assignment Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of clerical and technical duties involving student registration, admission and records maintenance. 

• Distributes, explains, receives and checks for completion and accuracy, and maintains various records of items such as residence lists and registration forms, high school and college transcripts, cumulative student records, athletic eligibility, program changes, and veteran-related forms. 

• Performs a variety of public contact tasks; creates and/or maintains PowerPoint slideshow of A/R information for students; communicates with students, staff, and other individuals to disseminate or explain information; and aids students in registration and admission procedures by giving information about admission and graduation requirements, prerequisites, and courses offered. 

• Prepares and maintains student folders; reviews files, records, and other documents to obtain information to respond to requests; and compiles data for and prepares statistical and other reports on various registration, admission, and records related topics for District and external agencies as needed. 

• Prepares information for data processing from various source documents and checks output for completion and accuracy. 

• Receives and accounts for various fees; and processes records, posts and processes grades, types and files various notices and forms. 

• Prepares and maintains Veterans’ Affairs student folders; keeps current and accurate record of schedules, transcripts, and course planners for VA students; updates drop/adds; reports changes to the VA; oversees VA work-study students; maintains veteran-related forms and contracts; and evaluates military transcripts and posts units on the appropriate system.

• Prepares routine correspondence; composes and types letters, including denial letters.

• Arranges appointments for staff and students; answers telephone, responds to requests, delivers messages; operates office machines, receives and distributes mail; and orders materials, supplies, and services. 

• Oversees temporary and student workers. 

• May perform clerical lead responsibilities for classified staff and office procedures of evening division admissions.

Folsom Lake College

8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., (Up to 3 days/week at Folsom Lake College, El Dorado Center, or Rancho Cordova Center depending on need). Selected candidate may be assigned to work some evenings from 10:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. Scheduled hours per week may vary from 24 to 40 hours depending on the needs of the department.

 

NOTE: Temporary classified positions are limited to 110 work days per fiscal year, per board regulation.

Minimum Qualifications

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: Two years of general clerical experience preferably including one year of school admissions/records experience or general accounting. (One year of college level business or clerical course work may be substituted for one year of general work experience).

 

Promotional: One year of experience performing clerical duties at the level of A/R Clerk I. (Promotional applies to regular, current Classified employees working with the Los Rios CCD.)

 

Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles.

 

(Experience Requirement: One year of experience is equal to 12 months of experience at a maximum of 40 hours per week. Applicable part-time experience will be converted to the full-time equivalent for purposes of meeting the experience requirement. Education Requirement: 12 units are equal to six months of education; 24 units are equal to one year of education.)
