Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with PhD training in molecular, cellular, or developmental biology. The candidate would contribute to a program that is devoted to model-organism biology and provides a highly collaborative environment, along with exceptional interdisciplinary opportunities for trainees. The Matera lab has broad interests in basic molecular mechanisms that regulate RNA processing and RNP assembly in vivo. Using Drosophila as our primary genetic system, we engineer BAC-based histone gene clusters to express specific histone mutants that prevent binding of effector proteins in chromatin. These genetic and genomic studies directly evaluate the contributions of specific histone PTMs to epigenetic regulation during development and neoplasia. Concurrently, we also study RNP biogenesis mechanisms and innate immune signaling defects in animal models of neuromuscular disease. We use genetics and proteomics combined with a variety of deep sequencing approaches to understand fundamental questions in eukaryotic gene regulation. This individual will display critical thinking and leadership skills as they guide research projects to publication.
