Posting Summary
UCHC is seeking a Department Nurse Manager for the Garden State Youth Correctional facility in Yardville, New Jersey. The Department Nurse Manager performs supervisory responsibilities for nurses across shifts on an assigned unit(s) at a facility on a consistent basis. Collaborates with physicians, other health care personnel and interdepartmental personnel to ensure that the mission and objectives of the facility’s health program are realized. Maintains the standards of nursing practice/care and actualizes the philosophy, goals and objectives of the Nursing Service to staff, inmates and families.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Assists in interpreting and translating the theoretical concepts of nursing into the delivery of nursing services for adults (18 to 64 years) and geriatrics (65+) inmates within the Department of Corrections.
  • Assists in the participation of the structuring of organized nursing services.
  • Implements nursing functions within the context of UCHC.
  • Uses information systems to retrieve, implement and retain essential records and services.
  • Directs and supervises nursing and health care services in the context of the service.
  • Provides for cost-effective use of resources and participates in budget preparation in the context of a unit.
  • Assists with orientations and development of self, staff and nursing students.
  • Participates and provides leadership in quality assurance and quality improvement activities and provides training to staff and correctional officers.
  • Participates in decision making for organized nursing services.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility . Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine . Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Graduation from a state accredited school of nursing.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of progressively more responsible nursing experience.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Licensed as an RN in the State of New Jersey.
  • CPR Certification.
  • Must have valid driver’s license. Possesses own vehicle or alternative means of transportation from one site to another.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • One (1) year in a specialty area of services preferred.

Microsoft Windows based computers, Electronic Medical Records and other medical and office equipment
Physical Demands and Work Environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Typing, ability to work at varying computer workstations provided by the Department of Corrections in shared office environments. Ability to speak clearly and write proficiently is essential, extensive reading required, extended sitting is required, ability to move from unit to unit within correctional facilities. Frequently walks, bends, stretches, pushes and pulls, intermittent physical exertion when performing job activities. Manual dexterity and mobility for charting, lifting of up to 50 pounds, hearing and sight are essential, ability to speak clearly is required, may be required to travel within the state. ability to implement Universal Precautions and Safety Precaution an on-call responsibilities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Able to function in a stressful environment and relates well to patients, security staff and healthcare team members. A generally crisis oriented, secure environment working with adult inmates, some who exhibit aggressive, threatening behavior. Risk of body fluid exposure. Must be able to maneuver around architectural barriers and obstructions found in a prison environment. Could be exposed to fumes, toxics, outdoor weather conditions, vibrations, moving mechanical parts and loud noises. Individual must exhibit flexibility to work in a variety of settings. Entering and movement within the facility will be controlled by Correctional Officers.
Special Conditions
Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements. Employees will be subject to and must comply with all security regulations and procedures of NJ Department of Corrections and the assigned facility(ies) including, but not limited to sign in logs or electronic time clocks, searches of person and property, etc. Violations of NJ Department of Corrections and/or being banned by the Department of Corrections to work at a NJ Department of Corrections’ facility are grounds for a disciplinary action and potential termination.
