Job Overview

As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC College of Medicine has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients.

 

A full time Postdoctoral Fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Chenran Wang in the Department of Cancer Biology, University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. The postdoctoral position is dedicated to study the roles of astrocyte in regulating neurogenesis of tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). The Wang laboratory also focuses on the functions and mechanisms of selective autophagy and lipid metabolisms in development and neurogenesis of postnatal neural stem cells. The lab developed novel genetic mouse models to study aberrant neurogenesis in TSC1-deficient mouse brain. We use a variety of genetically engineered mouse models combined with single cell RNA-seq, single nuclei RNA-seq, single cell lineage tracing, hiPSC derived organoids, chemogenetics, clarity technique, patch clamp, metabolic/molecular/cellular approaches to gain insights of neural stem cell and neurogenesis in a human developmental disorder.   Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee.

Essential Functions
  • Conduct research experiments in a particular field within the pre-determined research scope and methodology.
  • Gather and analyze data and develop new ideas that promote current research.
  • Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts and presentations of research results.
  • Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentation; may assist in grant writing.
  • Keep informed of developments in field to maintain and enhance professional expertise.
  • Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies, as needed.
  • May teach techniques to others, train, and mentor junior research staff.
  • Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities. 
  • Play an active role in seeking career and research advice, both from the faculty supervisor and from other faculty members as well. 
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.

Required Education

Doctoral Degree in the appropriate field or discipline, or the recognized terminal degree, or the equivalent foreign equivalent.


Required Experience

??????At least one year of experience in neuroscience research, cell and molecular biology. 


Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work and collaborate effectively with students, faculty and staff from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience in neural stem cell, signal transduction, metabolism, autophagy, glia cells, organoids, and genetic mouse models.
  • Experience in scRNAseq and snRNAseq is ideal.
