The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) at the Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science of the University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for a full-time post-doctoral position.

The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing several numerical state-of-the-art climate model simulations that are made with ocean eddy parameterized and eddy resolving component models. He or she will assess air-sea feedbacks and how they affect predictability of terrestrial climate across timescales with the aim of diagnosing the predictability and prediction skill of severe storms and other hazards (e.g., tornado outbreak, severe wind, extreme rainfall, hail, fire weather, etc.).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. in physical oceanography, atmospheric science, or a related subject.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • The incumbent must also have a demonstrated ability in publishing results in the peer-reviewed literature.
  • Other highly desired qualifications include knowledge of MATLAB or Python, and experience with time series and frequency domain analysis, and the ability to analyze output from numerical models for scientific research. 
  • The ideal candidate will have demonstrated the ability to develop research ideas through grant writing and will have experience participating in field work carrying out oceanographic observations.
  • Strong communication skills are a plus.
